MAC Trust Mission Statement

The concept of a self-insurance program became a reality 37 years ago in 1987 when the Missouri Association of Counties formed its own Workers' Compensation Fund.

Membership in this Trust will be open to counties in the State of Missouri, which are members of the Missouri Association of Counties, cities located within such counties, and other governmental entities established by such counties whose employees have the same status as county employees for the purposes of workers' compensation. The Trust is governed by a 5-member board of directors, all of whom are county officials. They are elected to serve 3-year staggered terms by a majority vote of the Trust members at the MAC fall annual meeting.

Known as the MAC Trust, the pool was created with two distinct goals in mind: (1) to provide a service tailor-made for the needs of counties that would save millions of dollars in premiums, compared to the cost of similar workers' comp coverage on the commercial market, and (2) to provide revenue to the association so there would not be a need to increase member service fees.

Membership in the Trust currently includes 89 out of 114 counties and 10 related agencies.

As with all such programs, the workers' comp pool has been influenced by the growing cost of medical care and disability awards in recent years. However, thanks to the policy direction of the Trust's Board of Directors, the pool is in solid financial shape with reserves that will ensure stability through changes in the economy and the insurance market.
